The third Chess Tournament was played from 28 October till 4 November 2023.

This time organised by chess-club of Lagos (Henk van Ginkel and José Antonio Nunes), Associação Filatélica e Numismática Gil Eanes, with great support of the Portuguese Chess Federation, Algarve Chess Clubs Association, Lagos City Council, Parish Council Sao Gonçalo de Lagos and the Messe Militar de Lagos.
This made it possible that we were able, compared with the earlier editions, to upgraded this chess tournament. There are some changes: a new playing venue, the amount of games to play and an increase in prize money.
The tournament will be renamed in “I Open Internacional de Xadrez Cidade de Lagos” because it will be part of the Portugal Chess Tour of the Portuguese Chess Federation. The chess tournament stays an open tournament, so it is accessible for every chessplayer in the world.
The playing venue was in the old historical centre of the city of Lagos, in a historic building: the Messe Militar de Lagos (Infante building).

The tournament was again Fide-ELO-rated.
The wheather at that time of the year is usually around 20-22 degrees Celsius and also airline tickets and the prices for lodging (or holiday apartments) are low compared with the average prices. The earlier you book the cheaper the flight tickets(s). So if you are a foreign chessplayer consider a “chess-holiday” in the historical town of Lagos, Algarve!!
